Everyone has probably heard about optimists and cynics, glass half full/half empty sorta people right?
Then there's pragmatists.
the glass is not full, let's add water to make it full because the water is better in the glass than the pitcher.
basically instead of doing something for ideological or emotional reasons. weigh the actual pro's and cons of a decision, make an informed choice based on that decision deciding based on real tangible positives and negatives.
similar to rationalism but pragmatism doesn't have to be inherently logical.
The two can coexist however and pragmatic rationalism is a thing.
it should also come as no surprise that a lot of scientists and engineers are pragmatists because it's easier for them to make pragmatic choices due to their backgrounds.
so how do you usually make big decisions? are you a pragmatist?, a rationalist?, a cynic?, an optimist?
