Do you like it when someone welcomes you to their forum with some copy and pasted message?

Not really no. It doesnt feel very personal. But I suppose it's better than not being welcomed!

I also dont really like it if a welcome thread is started before I've even made a post. I know a forum that does that. I know they are trying to be friendly, but I find it a bit intimidating. I'd rather start my own thread to say hi.

I hate it. Someone on the site should always have enough time to welcome new members. I always make time.

I like making my own intros. I hate it when someone says Please welcome so and so to such and such site. It drives me nuts, and it doesn't exactly make me want to be active.

The boards that I moderate in I always greet each new member with a different post. I don't want to seem like a damn robot! I will try to play off something they said in their intro, or encourage them to tell us more if they didn't tell anything in their intro. Just seems more professional to me when all the staff - at the very least - come in and welcome all the new members.

Yeah, your replies to introduction posts are very good and personal.

Prewritten ones on the other hand are impersonal and lazy.

I write short welcome messages and sometimes I add a fun little twist to them or ask a question, not all of the time though.

I see nothing wrong with them. It is better than nothing even though its better real welcomes.

I hate that! It's like.. hey your new, but you aren't worthy my time, let me greet you with my Multi-mod.

I don't like it.

I think if you take time to register and post at somebody's forum, the least the members and owner can do is give the slightest personal touch to an introduction.
