Buying a book for your kids could make all the difference in the world to a child in a completely different part of the world.

That's the idea, anyway, behind a new project involving children's book publisher Kids Can Press and ONEXONE, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of children everywhere.

Last week, Kids Can Press released a new book by former middle school teacher David J. Smith titled This Child, Every Child: A Book About the World's Children.

The book, illustrated by Shelagh Armstrong, looks into the lives of children from different parts of the world and compares and contrasts their daily experiences, from obtaining enough food and clean water to how kids play and learn at school.

To get the important literature into kids' hands and help make a difference all at once, Kids Can Press has decided to donate 50 percent of profits from sales of Smith's book to ONEXONE. The charity will then use that money to deliver books to children in the earthquake-ravaged nation of Haiti, distributing them to libraries at schools including L'Ecole Nouvelle Zoranje and L'Ecole Nouvelle Royal Caribbean.

The ultimate hope is to help advance literacy and education among the youth in Haiti.

It sounds nice but I have a nagging feeling they could do something more basic... like educate those kids or give them water.
