How can society protect immune-compromised people best during a pandemic?

Should we have done more during this COVID 19 pandemic?

The pandemic was ruined the day medical research become debated politics and no reasoning or doctor would have public support to follow procedures. I do believe we could have done a much better job, but then I watch people complain that washing their own poo off their hands after using the bathroom is wrong due to *Insert Trump or Biden Here* and lose all faith.

This. Very much this. It should never be a political issues, it should always be 100% a health issue.

Vaccinate, wear a mask if you'll be around people, cough/sneeze into your elbow, wash your hands, don't go out when you're sick. It's quite simple and other countries have embraced this. Funny how difficult it's been for the greatest country in the world to manage to protect its citizens.
