Do you prune your older posts? Thoughts on forums that do this?

How do you feel about forums that have a pubic archive forum full of locked threads that nobody can reply to?

I have generally never done this. I can understand content becoming outdated or irrelevant, but it may still hold some type of value to viewers. I would think unless you're an incredibly active forum, fewer topics/posts in a forum would make the board look more inactive.

We have never done this on any of our communities. On our oldest and most successful community (approaching 1 million posts) we lock topics that have haven't been replied to in over a year. But they aren't pruned or archived. They are still searchable within the platform and are still index with Google and Bing.
