Quick Glance Advice

If you have time I'd like to ask that anyone who wishes (preferably people who know a lot about forums) to glance at my site and do a quick look see over the main page.

Then if possible could you tell me your thoughts. What doesn't look right, what doesn't appeal to you. Something I could improve on etc. My father always told me that everyone you meet has something to teach you, so if you have an idea that might make first-glancers enjoy my site a bit more I'd be happy and open to hear it.

I don't know nothing about nothing but I have been around a long time.

However.... that initial bright blue on black menu was hard on my eyes, and the various animations didn't help any.

Coming in a little late but would it be possible to offer a dark and a light theme? Some people prefer dark themes. I'm one who does not. A dark theme hurts my eyes. I much prefer a light theme and it makes we want to post longer. In short, offer members a choice.

The other thing I didn't care for were the animated icons. They were distracting.

In general, I found the forum well organized. I also found it to offer fun and interesting topics.

Not without logging in. Once someone becomes a member there is a choice to change the forum to a lighter theme style (though I admit it's not as pretty). At least not in my opinion anyway.

No one seems to like the animated icons. But I found them sooo cute! However, I will greatly consider about weather they should be kept or not seeing as that's two people who seem to dislike them.

Do you think having the generic (forum open/close) pic would be best or do you think having just a non-animated picture would be best?

This is the lighter option theme they can change it to. I don't think it's as pretty but it's available.

Kindly get rid of the horizontal scrollbar
That bit that has the Portal, Forums, Search etc. links has a div with a class "menu". Removing the padding-right from that doesn't change the look for me, but it does remove the horizontal scrollbar.

Alright, I think I'm going to change all the sections to regular pictures. So they're all like the News / Media thread. I'll let you guys know when I'm done so you can give me your thoughts.

Also, I'll try to look into the CSS area and find that part.

It doesn't have an id. It's <div class="menu"> inside <div class="header_right">.

Alright there are no more moving gifs for pics on the main page. Does it look better? Or is it still to distracting. I'm still working on the color and I'm having a time trying to figure out how to get rid of the horizontal scroll bar.

But what do you think so far? Better worse? Should I remove the pics completely?

I know you're not using phpBB, but one of my favorite themes I've recently discovered is a theme called ProBlack. It's a Prosilver based theme but it's so reminiscnt of the SubBlack theme that used to be available for phpBB2. I just love it and use it on my forum, although I don't have it as the default theme obviously.

You might have some trouble because I think it's only for phpBB.
