How would you raise your children differently than how your parents raised you?

i specifically refused to breed due to parental abuse and my sibs committed to raise their children without ever spanking them.

I do everything the opposite. My dad was an abusive alcoholic and my mom had severe depression and would sleep all day / neglect us kids.

Very good on you. I know people with stories like yours and do the best they can for their children. I find that to be very inspiring, honestly.

No spanking.

Get more involved in their school work.

Encourage them to get a job at a younger age. Fortunately, I had the pleasure of not having to work until I got out of my graduate program, which was like...what, 3 years ago? Well, I've worked before that as an Administrative Assistant, but it was for my step dad's company and I basically ran errands all day for five years.

Thanks, I never understood why people ruin their lives (or simply continue the downward spiral) over having incompetent parents. We all don't need to be a product of our environment.
