As it emerged that fewer than one rape victim in 30 can expect to see her or his attacker brought to justice, Ministry of Justice (MoJ) data shows the full scale of re-offending rates among criminals.
Only 1,070 rapists are convicted every year despite up to 95,000 people, the vast majority of them women, being raped.
New data has now shown that those convicted between 2001 and 2011 had an average of 4.2 previous convictions.
The figures highlight how many criminals pass through a 'revolving door' justice system, appearing before a judge only to offend again and again.
Around 473,000 adult men and women are victims of a sexual offence on average each year, a joint overview by the Home Office, Office for National Statistics and Ministry of Justice MoJ estimated.

Just proves that these people get slapped on the wrist and go right back to doing what they were doing. Perhaps it's time to hand out stiffer sentences.
