We hoped our story about the anti-gay Facebook filter showed Russia was becoming more tolerant.
Just 80-odd people used the Russian flag to protest against the rainbow filter that was used to celebrate gay marriage being legalised in the USA.
That’s out of a population of around 145 million people.
But if this video is anything to go by our optimism was… ill-founded.
Two men, who broadcast as ‘Chebrussia TV’ were attacked and heckled as they walked round Moscow holding hands.
They carried out the walk was part of a social experiment on attitudes towards homosexuality in the country.
In the most frightening exchange one man barged in to the pair and then pushed one of them against a wall.
Homosexuality was decriminalised in Russia 20 years ago but according to human rights groups hate crimes against gay people are on the increase.
This is not helped by a law that bans ‘homosexual propaganda’.
