What are your thoughts on Russia demanding that the US return Alaska back to it?

Social media users fired broadsides at the Kremlin after a Russian official made the outlandish demand for the U.S. to return Alaska and California's Fort Ross to the war-hungry Putin regime.

Oleg Matveychev, a 'spin doctor' for Russian President Vladimir Putin, demanded that Washington 'return all Russian properties, those of the Russian empire, the Soviet Union and current Russia, which has been seized in the United States, and so on' during an appearance on Russian state news on Sunday.

Many on social media were quick to mock the Duma member's dumbfounded demands, which also included handing over the Antarctic because, as Matveychev said, Russia 'discovered it, so it belongs to us.'

One Twitter user with the handle odyssues55 laughed at the demand, tweeting: 'So Russia wants us to GIVE back Alaska? HAHAHAHA.

'Pay the price b***hes. We paid $7.2 million in 1867. Adjusted for today's dollar that's $138,024,000. Plus all of the infrastructure (improvements) we have made - lets just call it $10 billion.'

I don't think they're going to give it back to him willingly, even if it did belong to Russia originally. The government isn't going to be willing to loose whatever taxes that state pays in every year just because Russia says they want that.

That's actually pretty hilarious. Lets see if they stump up the cash or not, I somehow would doubt it... ;)

Russia sold the US Alaska. Also that happened like 3 Russian governments ago while they were still a monarchy. Then the Russians killed off the only family that could even lay claim to the land. This is what desperation looks like.

Wow, Putin really has lost it, he's going to stop at nothing to restore the former Russia land huh?

I wish that they do not take full ownership of Alaska again, the USA can keep it. They will keep fighting though

I don't think it would be very smart of them to fight the U. S. over Alaska. If they are having this much trouble with Ukraine, what are they going to do if they actually attack Alaska?

They won't attack it, Like I said they used to own it then U.S somehow took over it many many years ago. Now he wants it back? Xd

I mean Alaska has nothing to offer anyway other then snow and ice

That's what I can't figure out. Why do they want Alaska back in the first place when it's mostly snow and ice?

Russia sold it to the US, which is what makes it funny.

Alaska is rich in natural resources, and is great from militarily strategic point.

I believe Russia has already overstepped its boundaries when it invaded Ukraine. Russia is already aware that the world doesn't like them, and attempting to make a move and take Alaska would certainly result in WWIII. If they do something to the United States, the entirety of NATO responds. Definitely not a good idea to try anything.

This....

I don't think it would be smart either but I can't figure out why they'd ask such a thing in the first place. Plus, if they are having such a trouble taking over Ukraine, what makes them think they'd be able to take Alaska?
