Complied by website English Russia, the video shows various Russian military units marching as they sing the tune to the popular US cartoon.

Created by Stephen Hillenburg in the 1990s, the animated series has become a worldwide success, spawning a film, various merchandise and, now it seems, an unlikely hit.

The English Russia website reporting that the theme tune is taught to Russian military commanders as a marching standard.

Since being posted online last week, the clip has been watched almost 50,000 times.
