Satellite Broadband

So a newer way to get a broadband internet connection is through satellite broadband. I know companies in the UK offer this service, so to my American friends, is satellite broadband available in America? If so is it a big thing?

To people in other places, does you country offer satellite broadband? Just interested to find out.

I hear its very expensive. Mainly used by people who live in the middle of nowhere.

My grandpa had HughesNet, a satellite ISP, mainly because they live on a farm literally miles from a town.

He got rid of it cause it was slow, cost $90 a month, and has a mis-pointed satellite after their roof was renovated by an Amish family who had to take the satellite off the roof to renovate it. No one ever came out to fix it.

Yeah, don't get satellite internet. Not only what I said, but they also cap your downloads to a ridiculously small amount (less than 1GB a day). Browsing is fine, but if you gotta download a huge file, you're screwed.

I know this is available, it's expensive and available to those in rural areas. I can't imagine you getting top speeds. Wire is always better than wireless.
