A visit to Father Christmas should be one of the highlights of the festive season for children. But it doesn't always work out that way. As these photos from the book Scared of Santa: Scenes of Terror in Toyland show, sitting on Santa's knee can be a terrifying experience.

Me bad! I have to admit these pictures made me laugh.

What did you think of the pictures?

I guess a lot of parents want their child to have a picture with Santa. Then they can use that picture later in life to humiliate them.

This is not something I would take my child to do (if I had one). I see no purpose other than the result in those pictures.

The same can be said for pets. One year I took my two Miniature Pinschers (Lexie & Louie) to have their picture taken with Santa. At the time, I thought it was cute and a good idea. I dressed them both in their Christmas sweaters and they looked adorable. When it was their turn to sit with Santa, I placed them both in Santa's lap. Lexie immediately started whimpering and trying to get down. Louie, on the other hand, grabbed Santa's beard and jumped down with it in his mouth. If that wasn't bad enough, he left his mark on Santa's pant leg. NEVER AGAIN!
