But don't you dare say Jesus or have a bible on you in school.

Eid al-Adha is the Muslim "Festival of the sacrifice" which falls on the Muslim 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasts for three days. In the international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary from year to year, drifting approximately 11 days earlier each year. This presented a problem for Muslims in WATERBURY, Conn, since they wanted the school to allow their children (and non-Muslims as well) hopefully to participate in the holy day and stop doing any tests, field trips, and such … sort of "it's time you respect our religion."

This year, they are expected to fall on July 17 and Sept. 23.

So Muslims went to the Board of Education to file a concern. The Muslims complained that these days are "typically observed with morning prayers, followed by gatherings of friends and family" and so Muslim kids should not be having any exams or have to participate in American type of stuff.

What the media left out are two other issues: now the school district has to track the Lunar calendar, and by that, Islam, a spirit of Antichrist intended to changing set times and set laws as well as educating non-Muslims that Eid al-Adha celebrations start after the descent of the Hujjaj, the pilgrims performing the Hajj from Mount Arafat, a hill east of Mecca, and all that "Muslims observe the holiday  with morning prayers, followed by gatherings of friends and family" is only half the story. The day ends up with an animal slaughtered by every household in the backyard:

Instead of Americans educating themselves on all this and why they should not introduce their children to Muslim practices, at a meeting last week, Board of Education members praised the Muslim community for sharing its concern and promised to work on a remedy.

As a result, Board President Charles Stango, a proud member of the Waterbury Republican Party, suggested that letters be distributed to teachers and principals at the start of the school year, advising them against scheduling tests, field trips, plays, or other events on Muslim religious holidays.

Stango was gung-ho and even invited other communities to forward suggestions as well. It started with more than 300 signatures on a petition and has come full circle. Thursday night, the Waterbury Board of Education voted to honor the two Muslim holy days. Stango, announced his intention to have letters distributed at the outset of each school year, asking teachers and administrators to avoid tests, field trips, plays or other important events during Eid Al-Fir or Eid Al-Adha. In November, school officials received the petition and Stango said: "We were approached about this, and we thought about it, and honored it."

How nice Mr. Dufus.

So now as a result, in WATERBURY, Conn, starting next fall, all schools including American children in the Waterbury School District will be honoring two of the Muslim religion's most holy days by not scheduling tests, field trips, or major school events on those days.

From a slightly less inflammatory source:

Waterbury becomes first Connecticut school district to honor Muslim holidays of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha

February 9, 2015
Waterbury, Conn., board of education voted Thursday to allow Muslim students to take excused absences on the two holy days; no tests or major school events would be planned for those days. The vote followed a community petition.

inflammatory is right. Who cares if these kids take a day off to go do religious / family stuff.
The school isn't being forced to celebrate anything, just hold off on tests & assemblies as a courtesy.

If a school has a significant Muslim population it'd be common sense they hold off of tests and stuff if they know a day is not going to yield a fantastic attendance.
Over here, all Muslims with kids in public schools (of course, kids in Islamic schools get the two Eids off anyhow. My children will be from this camp when they are old enough for school.) pull their children from school for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha year in year out, and why not? They are our Easter and Christmas essentially. Only we don't get the privilege of public holidays, yet we have those of Christianity forced upon us (Hey, I'd trade!)

As for the beheads an animal, no we don't. That's just laughable. We slaughter an animal (a few families pitch in, as it's a lot of meat) in accordance to normal halal methods and donate all excess to the needy and hungry.

I got Christian holidays forced on me, too, but I am not a practicing Christian, woo!  Free day from school!  Who gives a shit?  This is just a matter of insensitivity and blatant arrogance from people who do not and will not accept that we are a big melting pot of people. This is one example.  This is not the norm in our country, but I guarantee we'll get a couple of crackpots shouting that if we let the school district do this that--gasp!--it'll spread like wild fire and soon we'll all be wearing hijabs and growing beards!  OMG!  It's just like if we let the gays have sex and get married that we'll somehow catch it, too! Ohh noooo~ T_T

Give me a break.

On behalf of the human race, I am sorry we have to live in a world where ignorance and an unwillingness to learn and celebrate other cultures that are OH NO DIFFERENT FROM OUR OWN! is so rampant.

YOU may not do the animal slaughterings but it is done and it is not some rare occurrence. Regardless I could care less if that what you want to do or not. Have at it if that is part of your religion. I just do not want my schools promoting it and encouraging others of a different faith or belief to be involved in it. Leave it to the parents.

But if you are living in a Christian dominated society with rules set in place for a government controlled school you follow those rules and don't change them for a few percentage points of the population.

Only we don't get the privilege of public holidays, yet we have those of Christianity forced upon us (Hey, I'd trade!)

It is the minority and immigrants job to melt into our customs and laws not the other way around. And this is the thing that religion and so many new immigrants refuse to do.

Thank GOD the numbers are slipping over the years. Albeit at a slow trickle, eventually, at some point, Christianity will die out and/or become the minority.

Melting pot means you melt into American customs. Not the other way around for every other religion or immigrant who chooses to live in a christian society and then does not like what they find when it does not work out for them.

You mean like the no go zones all over Europe. Yes it does spread like wildfire when idiots in our government promote multiculturalism.

Texas Islamic Tribunal Already in Trouble with Law Over False Claims

The Islamic Tribunal, set up in North Texas to hear cases under Sharia law for followers of Islam, has hit a bump in the road. On their website, through an image captured by Lawrence Jones, the four individuals named to the tribunal were listed as "attorneys" even though not all of them had law degrees.

As Lawrence Jones told Dana Loesch on her television program Tuesday, "You cannot say that you're an attorney in the United States of America, and you have no documentation – especially in Texas."

According to The Blaze:
