Has your school ever been on lockdown?
What happened?

Not my school but it happened at work. I worked for a Japanese company and someone called that there was a bomb under one of the cars in the employee parking lot. They made an announcement that all employees and visitors had to remain inside and stay away from windows and entrance/exit doors.

The Police, Fire Department and a special Bomb Squad came. They used 'sniffer' dogs to check the parking lot. After about three hours, they found nothing. Another announcement was made that we were now allowed to leave the building.

Nope, none of them have been as far as I can remember.

It's not just school's that practice "lockdowns".

The term comes from the Prison System in response to inmate disturbances.

But it is also now practiced in the business world where offices and even some stores will do a 'lockdown' when some sort of threat manifests.

What it actually means is that if you are there, you have the right to attempt to hide until the bad guy comes in and shoots you in the back of your head.

Where I used to work they told us that personal sidearms were forbidden and we had to wait until one of the various police departments in the area could shake somebody loose to secure the building.

There were several of us that disagreed with that policy.

I work for a school in a bad neighborhood and its always being locked down every time there is a crime committed in the area that involves someone running or hasn't been caught yet. Which is usually every other month (on average).

I remember when I was in school, someone phoned in a bomb treat and we all went out in the field. I think we all still would have blown up had it been real. :P

It happened once because someone wrote on the bathroom wall that they were going to blow up the school.

It happened once because there was some sort of spill of chemical stuff.
