A 10-year-old at Bedford Elementary in Bedford, KY, was eating lunch with her friends when a school official reportedly came to her table, picked up her hot meal and dumped it in the garbage. The reason? There wasn't enough money in her account.

Coincidentally, the girl's aunt, Leslie Chilton, is the treasurer at the parent-teacher organization there. "An actual employee told me that afternoon because I was at school," Chilton told WAVE3 News. "It was awful to think about her sitting there and crying. She's a shy girl."

But the school's action didn't just affect Chilton's niece. Kim Wright, the mom of another student at Bedford told the news station, "Several parents have contacted me saying their kids came home upset because their friend's food was taken," adding, "whether it's the fault of the school or the parents, the child does not need to be in the equation."

The girl's grandfather, Doug Joyce, agreed, pointing out the family has the money to cover the lunches; they just didn't know their payment was past due. "I think it's all bullying," he told the news station. "If the schools can't figure out a better way of doing it than that, they don't need to be running the schools."

Wright contacted the school, in hopes they would change their policy, but didn't hear back. So she started a petition that now has more than 1,000 signatures. The county is reportedly holding a meeting to discuss the issue, but not until mid-June.

Your thoughts her meal getting taken away and dumped in the trash?

I see a lawsuit in that school district's future...seriously, WTF are they thinking?

These people not only embarrassed this child in front of everyone in that cafeteria, did they once think that maybe, just maybe this is the only hot meal this child gets a day? Good thing this wasn't my child is all I can say.

You and me both, Jazzy...like I said, I see a lawsuit in this school district's future.

"Let's see, nine down.... looks like about fourteen.... no, thirteen letters, starts with an H, third letter is an M, ends with G, clue is, 'much better option than sending your kids to an institution run by certified asshats'."
