After the Scottish elections took place on Thursday, the SNP (Scottish Nationalist Party) had won the most seats in it and its leader, Alex Salmond, says that Scotland will be an independent state from the UK by 2015. I'm Scottish, and I'm against that idea. Why should Scotland be a seperate nation from the UK? It's not going to benefit anything

Full story of this found here.

The referendum would ask the people of Scotland to approve the Scottish government entering into negotations with the British government.

The next step is the referendum itself. Opinion polls have consistently shown support for independence remaining at around 25 to 30 per cent. A vote for the SNP in Scottish elections may or may not translate into a vote for independence come referendum day.

Seems like they have a long way to go on this and the poll is showing that support for this is very low. Not sure reading the article what Scotland would gain by becoming an independent state.

It'll probably gain nothing and if Scotland does gain independence from the UK, I will scream.

So I can better understand, Chris, what special treatment does Scotland get that you don't?

Free uni fees, free medication and free care for the elderly.

Don't we get free medication? I got all my asthma medication free.

Also, they get free parking! Don't forget that!

I don't think much will be gained from it really, I think it's more about Scotland saying that they are independent rather for any significant gain for the people of Scotland.

I wish the US had Free uni fees, free medication and free care for the elderly. Maybe I'm living in the wrong country.

...still aren't independent are they? I thought it'd go faster.
