SeaWorld in Florida has been accused of drugging its whales, keeping them in cramped pools and allowing them to get sunburn.

Joyce Kuhl is suing the attraction in Orlando after she visited the site in 2013.

She’s also demanding that millions of other visitors are reimbursed via a federal class action that could cost the park billions.

She has accused SeaWorld of a ‘campaign of misinformation’ in order to cover up the alleged mistreatment of orcas and poor conditions, and admitted that she wouldn’t have visited if she had known ‘the true facts’.

Kuhl filed the suit in federal court in Orlando on Thursday, and accused the company of spinning an illusion which ‘masks the ugly truth about the unhealthy and despairing lives of these whales’, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Her suit also claims that a chlorine solution ‘stronger than household bleach’ is dissolved into the water where the whales are kept in captivity.

It’s the second time SeaWorld has been sued in less than three weeks, after a California lawsuit accused the company of leading the public to believe that the orcas were happy.

But SeaWorld said the lawsuit was ‘a publicity stunt intended to generate more news coverage’.

The marine park has faced a barrage of criticism from animal welfare groups since a trainer was killed by a male orca in 2010.

And in 2013, documentary Blackfish extensively examined claims of mistreatment, resulting in the resignation of chief executive Jim Aitchison

Fred Jacobs, SeaWorld’s chief spokesman, told the Times that the lawsuit was ‘baseless’ and ‘filled with inaccuracies’.

‘The lawsuit filed [yesterday] appears to be an attempt by animal [rights] extremists to use the courts to advance an anti-zoo agenda’, he said.

These beautiful animals don't belong in pools and being mistreated for the sole purpose of human entertainment. They belong in their natural habitat. Who would be happy contained in a pool all day? Ugh, this really pisses me off.
