I'm not talking about the emos that cut theyre wrists to make themselves have loads of attention.

I mean proper self harmers. People who cut/carve themselves as a release not as a way to die.

What is your oppinion on these people?

There is a very, very fine line you're up against, just to let you know.

Self harmers who cut to get attention are normally very close to the others, they just have not been pushed quite far enough.

When people cut themselves, they are doing it to release some psychological pain. The human brain is not setup to handle that sort of torment/pain/anguish/whatever you want to call it, so it rationalizes that if it can feel physical pain, then the emotional and psychological pain will diminish.

It's a bad form of rationalization, and deep down, most of them actually know this. However, this goes along with depression normally, which makes it so much harder for them to accept - because one of the trademarks of depression is denial, which throws an extra spanner in the works that you really could do without.

My opinion on them: They need to be treated with extreme care by someone who knows what they are doing, because at the end of the days, whether its a so called 'emo attention getter' or a 'proper self harmer', they are both people and they need help. I'm somewhat passionate about this issue, as i have friends who do/did this, so it's very close to my heart...

I am not a self harmer, but I think that by feeling physical pain, it takes your thoughts away from emotional issues/emotional pain. You focus on the physical pain rather than the emotional.

I cut myself a few times when I was a teenager..

Looking back I see how stupid that was.

There is lots of different ways to get out of a funk.

I don't understand how anyone could do such a thing, It's just crazy! I could never do such a thing and nor would I want to.

It doesnt work.. you just end up still sad and depressed and left with cuts / scars to remind you of your sadness when you actually are in a good mood.
