As staff, whether Admin or otherwise. Do you feel you should set an example to not openly swear on a forum? Especially if you have youngsters on that forum?

I feel you should set an example in all aspects of the forum, not just by what sort of language you use, but also in other areas as well. I still remember one incident where an administrator was leaning more towards a deal of, do as I say, not as I do as I remember he banned all of us for spamming, yet when you viewed the forum as a guest, he still posted spammy crap about the latest baseball card sale. I think those of you who were around for that little incident may recall what forum I'm refering to. I don't think I'll ever forget about that one, even if I never join another forum again.

I agree with you on this Ashley. When you become a staff member (IMO) you need to earn the respect from the other members. Staff members and their actions set the mood for the forum. I cringe when I see the F word being used by staff outside of the adult area of a forum. How are we supposed to issue a warning when a member tells another member to F off when the F word is being used by staff themselves? I'm by no way a prude but I feel that foul language being used by staff is really not setting a very good example for any aged member.

People can use the word and not direct it at someone else in a disrepsectful manner. Someone telling someone to F off is a whole different ball park than someone saying (for example) I am really F'ing tired. I had a long day

I don't generally mind seeing a little bit of swearing, as long as it's not against the rules. However, I do cringe when it's used in the forum of name calling or if someone tells someone else to F off. Then that's when I get a bit offended. Using it in the form of name calling is a huge turn off though, such as if someone were to say F you. Then I'd seriously put my foot down on it. It all depends on the circumstances really. Heck, I swear myself occasionally in the private forums if something's really pissing me off, but on the public forums I wlil not swear in front of staff or members alike. The only exemption of private forums is the VIP forums as virtually anybody can be made a VIP.
