Do you shop around before you buy a big ticket (expensive) item?

I shop around for the best price on EVERYTHING. Im on a budget.

I check Consumer Reports and if I have to pay a little more for big ticket item then I will. I'm not going to waste my money on a low end/low rated item that I'm probably going to have to replace which in the long run would cost me twice as much for that big ticket item.

I look around to find the cheapist price I can get for that particular item I want. Then I get it.
