Should forums stop being so ban/trigger happy?

If it's too big then there's not a lot you can do, understanding or anything more involved is all well and good but if you have a very limited volunteer pool then it's not worth the loss of staff sanity - with it, the forum's order - to play games, to engage in potentially lengthy diplomacy or try to work out someone having a bad day, what have you. The key is having a clear process that works proportionately, ie, not starting off with a full ban unless it's really needed. If it is, I reckon the trigger happiness will save the board from being further damaged down the line. If a quick message will do, do it. Seek the minimum action that's needed to deal with the issue - just make sure it's handled.

Anything after that is case by case, if the forum is really too trigger happy then that's on them and they've made their bed. But that's holds up regardless if it's a forum or another format.

I am not sure where these ban/trigger-happy sites are.

Reddit is a big one. They have people who shouldn't be on staff banning people from sub forums over stupid shit all of the time. Just because they are easily offended.

Good shout. You can’t get banned for disagreeing if they don’t know you disagree
