Should retailers be closed for every major holiday?

It's no secret that the majority of retailers make their money on holiday and holiday weekends like Easter, Christmas, the 4th of July for those in America etc, but myself and a lot of others feel like they should be closed for these days, because not everyone are. I work in retail and one job is closed on Thanksgiving while the other is open while both are closed on Christmas Day. Should most retailers be closed on these days so people can spend time with their families?

Fast-Food junkies would go nuts! :p But, personally, I think it would be a boon to those affected & it would be a good idea.

Yes, I think shops should close on all major holidays.
It’s only a day or two, no one’s going to starve or go without clothes because they couldn’t shop for 24 hours. With a bit of planning, it’s really not a big deal. It’s just one day.

Up to them, really - but I think nobody should be expected to work on major holidays, unless they're doing essential work that genuinely can't be paused for a day or two.

Off the top of my head, though, I can't think of any RETAILERS as essential.

Grocery stores are considered essential, sadly
Most grocery stores will be closed this Christmas. Find out which ones will remain open for last-minute shopping. - LINK

This is waaaay more logical ; grocery store employees should have holidays off, too.
