Yes, because it is unpleasant.
Yes because nobody should be violent towards each other.
Also lots of women are TRAPPED in their current situation. They cannot leave their abusive husband because of fear or they don't have the financial means to leave. Perhaps if their abusive husband faced some real consequences for smacking their wife around, they'd be more inclined to refrain from doing that in the future.
