Advertising forums are a lot of work, I agree. Trust me, I tried my luck with one and I gave up before long. I know there are loads of these out there already, but you should try something simple like a General Chat forum or something that is easy to maintain and keep under control. I would not go back to my old FPM (Forum Promotion Mania) anytime soon. If you do decide on a general chat board, you could have like a miniture Advertising section, set certain limits or something.
And there are loads of Advertising forums out there already, so that would be way too much competition in my opinion. You would have to make your services unique from the rest somehow.

i guess you're right, only problem is if i have a general chat forum i dont have photoshop or GIMP to make a good banner.
plus, hardly anyone would know about it.

There are plenty of promotion sites out there where you can request to have someone make you a banner. I asked someone to do one for me at Webmaster Groove and she made me a really nice one as a result. Also, as far as anyone not knowing about it? How do you think sites like this one and Marie 1988 get members? We don't just sit there doing nothing that's for sure... me and Nebulous, I mean. We advertise at as many forums as we can. Plus, keep in mind that forums in general don't grow overnight. Marie 1988 will be a month old on October 10 and I am still trying to get members. The biggest thing is, it takes patience to run a forum.

If you start a forum, do it because you want to. Make it about something you like. If your heart isn't in advertising, don't have an advertising forum. You can advertise your forum anywhere....you can even advertise an advertising forum lol..... Good luck in whatever you decide.

Princess is right, but beware: If you do start an advertising forum, keep in mind that there are some boards out there that don't allow what's called Competition advertising Meaning, if I ran an advertisement forum, and you came to advertise your forum of the same genere as my board, I could just as easily ban you because you're advertising a forum that's the same genere as mine. By the way, I wouldn't really be that mean... that's just an example. But that is true that some advertisement forums won't allow people to advertise the same genere as theirs because of competition reasons. I hope I'm explaining this right, Princess?

I guess I just remembered one really strict forum I once joined up with, that was an advertising forum (this was when I had FPM, I think, or it was another member) and they or I tried advertising this forum on there, but they said we couldn't advertise our board because it was a rival board...I don't think any of you would be familiar with it... lol. I was just having a hard time putting my thoughts into words, or something.
Anyway, good luck! Also, don't forget to start up some topics before opening your forum! That's the mistake I always seem to make when I do a forum.
