Why is it that spammers are drawn to my site AddictedTech and so I have to be staring at the users registered like a hawk

) what is it?

Does anyone else have this problem?

If they're bots the answer's obvious. Your link was found somewhere and the proper bot was sent to advertise.

If it's people or nonsensical bots you've either got someone who doesn't like you or someone who's bored.

So you mean trolls ah well at least I know how to ban the user permanently.

Email, IP the lot!

You should also, install captcha it should stop most spam bots from getting on your site.

(Correct me if I'm wrong).

we have a force of about 9 mods who deal with spam, dodgy links, illegal material, etc

to make it easier for them to find the offenders we have a thread called 'snitchers corner'

anyone who finds such stuff posts a link or the profile of the offender in there...........mods know to check that thread first when they log on to see if theres any that need dealing with

to us 'regular' folk its almost a sport to try and be the first to post it, and spammer baitng is most definatly allowed

some times they get away with it for a while til a mod arrives...........think the record is banned within 2 minutes of joining/1 post :lol!: he was a reoccuring spammer and we all recognised his style of picking consecutive usernames......banned his ip in the end

it was the fact he had been spamming for a week...........getting banned everyday then signing up again......but he was using the same username just changing the last digit.....1, 2 ,3 ,4 etc..........we were all sort of waiting to pile on him the next time

I just banned someone two minutes after they made their first spammy thread

joshalters are you IP banning them or do you jsut ban the username and email? In some forum systems you can ban an entire email domain so you could ban those temporary mail emails.

I know how you feel. I've been what feels like 2 weeks now, banning accounts. Had to upgrade the captcha settings and turn on Email Activation.

I'm IP banning, email banning and user banning

We've actually been pretty good with spammers lately. We were hit pretty hard when Chatting Time first opened, but thanks to a few mods, and a dedicated staff team, the spam attacks have cut down tremendously.
