I received my first speeding ticket today for travelling 24km/h over the posted limit of 50km/h... I pulled out of a service station and accelerated (a little too much) right into a speed trap. I was signaled to pull over, so I did, and the friendly officer explained that he wasn't going to be able to warn me for that speed. I tried to explain to him that I recognized him (as I do volunteer work for the police) and that I've directly helped him catch a few drink drivers before. He didn't recognize me, and although appreciated the help I've given him in the past, handed me a $170 infringement notice with 35 demerits attached.

I went home and paid the ticket in full (lucky it was pay day today) and tried to come to terms with my first speeding ticket and in fact the first time I've ever been pulled over. I emailed the recruiting officer after I paid it and explained that I'd received a ticket and was wondering if it would harm my chances of joining the Police. She stated that she wonders why this incident would have occurred when someone has expressed interest in enforcing the law on others. She did say that Police College does not accept those with 50 or more demerits. She added that one ticket on its own would not stop me so long as I didn't accumulate any more. So I think I should be alright.

I'm just really disappointed in myself really and thinking about it now, I've realized that my driving had become very aggressive in the past few months, excessive speeding, tailgating etc... I guess it was going to happen eventually, and it did. Lesson learnt. I've vowed that from tomorrow I will not speed or drive aggressively. I really want to achieve my dream and I'm doing myself no favors with my reckless driving.

Your stories?

Its not really that big of a deal, its just a speeding ticket. We all get them sooner or later.

Ive had so many tickets that I once got a letter from the DMV saying that if I got anymore I would be labeled a negligent driver. I haven't got any tickets since then until recently I got one speeding on the freeway. I have to go to court next month. Hopefully it wont be more than $200.

It's not a big deal for most people, but I prided myself on not having any. I don't think I need to tell my dad or anyone else. At least not right now. He'll be extremely disappointed, but show it as anger instead and I don't want to go down that path. I'll keep it to myself for as long as I can.

One time when I was a teenager I got a speeding ticket and didnt have the money to pay the fine. I had to call up my grandparents and ask them for money to pay the fine. They were pretty mad and brought it up several times after the fact. Even years later. Grandparents are a little overprotective and conservative though. My mom didnt really care or think it was a big deal.

Have never received a speeding ticket. I should have once as I was speeding and got pulled over. I had my hospital jacket in the back seat as I forgot to take it out of my truck the night before. Quick thinking, I told the officer that I was just called in for an emergency. He saw my jacket and let me go.

Well like you said as long as you know now and you pay more attention you won't have any problems going in the police field.

I however have never gotten a speeding ticket. However I had once went through a red light by accident and got pulled over however some how I weaseled my way out of losing points or even getting a ticket. I was soo happy because I haven't got my G liscence yet so that would have probably prevented me from getting them.

Also I've made myself a challenge and to not get any tickets or anything ever. Mainly because my friend received this thing in the mail that now he is concidered an expert driver or something since he's never been in an accident or gotten a ticket since he's had his liscence. This made his ensurence go way down and everything. I'm hoping I'll be able to accomplish that as well since that would be great and I'd get to save a bit of money.
