Should you stand up to others?

It really depends. At school, people stand up to others, but for the smallest things that lead to big problems. If someone tries to start trouble or drama over something so little it is stupid, I ignore it and let them battle themselves when they try to bring me down and I do not give them a care.

On the other hand, I've had people that will not back off, and you have to get them to back off by showing them you are serious and you will stand up to them. Most of the time, if you stand up to others, they will back down. I guess it really just depends on the person. I only stand up to others when I know it is necessary to not become a door mat.

I stand up for important issues. Piddly little meaningless crap isnt worth conflict.

I never had a problem with being picked on, as I am over six feet tall and of a larger build you could say.

I've been picked on one time so far, and that was in the seventh grade when I was in a classroom full of football players. They kept throwing this small little beanbag football at me, and the first few times I just laughed and thought it was funny, but it happened the next day, and finally I told them to stop. Of course, no, they didn't stop. They threw the ball again, but this time, I took it and put it in my pocket. That is when this big football player came over to me and told me to give him his football, and I told him no. (He was bigger and could of killed me) He asked again, and I told him to sit down because it's mine now. He backed down and sat down before the teacher came back in. I held onto the football till the end of class, then threw it at the wall as hard as I could on the way out.

Lol I was nervous that whole class period, because the entire football team was in there practically.

I've only been bullied once, when I was in grade 3/4. Girls do it worse. As for standing up, back then I didn't, but now I'm so aggressive that although I am 5'4 and under 100 pounds the last time I converted, most people sense the...antisocial aura. And the thing is that you care less. So there's no point them trying to pick a fight. They'll just go, You're no fun, and back off. Once they know it's useless to mess with you then they'll respect you a bit more. I've never met anyone who didn't at the very end back off.

Australians are nice that way. ^-^

Now the only time I really stand up for my beliefs or whatever is when people diss Pink Floyd. It makes me very angry.

As Nebulous said, i only stand up for important things, not pointless crap. A few people seem to think they are great calling people fat, like I've never heard that before.

A good reply to getting called fat:

I may be fat, but I can lose the weight. But you are ugly and you cant get rid of that!

If you don't stand up for your self, then you should prepare to be a victim to anyone at anytime. I used to be bullied, and one day I got tired of it. I did everything that your parents and teachers told you to do.. and tried like hell to avoid a fight whenever possible and nothing worked. So one day, I decided that being hurt for one or two days is better than being hurt for a life time. From then on, I always fought back. I sent the only 2 bullies I've had to the emergency room.. one had to have his testicle removed, and the other had to have his scalp reattached and was in a coma for a week. After that, I had gotten a reputation and people left me alone. The only other time I have fought was when this girl pushed my brother (then 6 years old) off of the swing because he beat her to it causing him to bust is lip.. I felt that her generosity should not go unrewarded and I returned the favor. I was 13, and she was 15.

Nowadays, I do stand up for myself, and even though I hate fighting, I will if I have to.. but only once I've realized that I've no choice, and after I have been hit.
