I personally think this is an amazing idea I think the $399 is USD currency but I’m not to sure but either way this is gonna be a banger and I’m personally interested

To be honest, I am a bit skeptical. Valve hasn't the best track record when it comes to their hardware (does anyone remember the Steam box?). I hope they can pull it off and that most games will be able to run smoothly on it. But I doubt most games will have a pleasant gaming experience on that small screen. It also seems like a niche product so I doubt developers will actively work to make their games look and play great on the Steam deck.

While I've not ordered one myself, I have noticed at least 5 of my friends putting down the deposit - compared to the total number of 0 people I knew who got the Steam Machines, it looks like theres a lot more hype behind this.

As a Linux gamer, I can attest that Proton is pretty great and people should expect a much better experience compared to that of the Steam Machines - the native Linux ports arent great.
Valve are also the ones taking on responsibility for game compatibility, so there shouldn't be many instances of having to rely on a dev to make their game compatible.
They keep talking about how anti-cheat games will work OoTB on launch, but I'm more curious about the Media Foundation issues that Proton still has - this is the big hurdle for me as a lot of Japanese devs use .wmv's for videos, which currently only work sometimes in Proton.
Though, once anti-cheat and Media Foundation are both addressed, Proton will have better compatibility with Windows games than even Windows does.

You do have a great point, No high graphic game has ever worked on portable devices let alone laptop unless you have over $4 grand but who knows they might surprise us lol.

We see how compatible goes too but I’m definitely interested either way.

I'm looking forward to it, though I will be holding it off until cost comes down and people work out all the bugs. I'm sure it won't hit the ground running good.

Anything new especially software wise is going to be extremely buggy so I understand where you’re coming from, It’s the same as Windows 11 they both look promising but it best to give them both time to transform as the software begins to act more stable then something that’s just come out of beta.

I don't see the software being an issue, maybe the hardware if anything.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how it handles a lot of games on the go. Hard to see it being great for some games, but we'll see, it could be amazing for a lot of games! A Switch competitor, at the very least, and with one massive library, potentially!

So I'm grateful to the steam deck and steam OS. Why? Because it's helped push proton to even greater heights making it that much easier to play stuff as a linux gamer.
Cyberpunk 2077 works out of the box on my desktop... arguably better than in windows 10.
