Well, I get hit by stereotyping almost every day, and here online. I went offline in 2018 and came back in October 2022. I started applying for writing gigs. People fell in love with my writing. But they disappeared as soon as they saw my location - Nicaragua. Oh my gosh! A Latino!
I applied with one large company in the US while visiting Miami, I was accepted even though I stated my location as Nicaragua. Finally the onboarding. I pointed out again that I lived in Nicaragua. Never heard from them again. I am not Latino, just live there.
My mom married and had children with a man who was much darker haired/darker skinned and we do not look much like our mother because of it (she has blonde hair and green eyes whereas we are all a little more 'tanned' and have brown hair and brown eyes). Some people questioned whether we were truly my mom's kids, but whatever. I feel I get a little more ignorance in my direction because of my name. My brothers all have normal, simple names, whereas mine is very unique and I'm constantly being asked if I'm Japanese or Filipino.
People are ignorant. Who the fuck cares what I am?
I usually get you must be a skinhead or racist,or criminal😂...peeps are stupid.
