A stuntman died after falling 200 ft when a ‘wing walking’ trick went wrong in front of thousands of people at an air show in Michigan, US, on Sunday.

The crowd of 75,000 thought the plunge was part of the stunt on the airstrip at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan. Todd Green had attempted a daring mid-flight grab onto the landing skid of a helicopter hovering above the Stearman aircraft he was standing on.

Ambulances at the air show took him to a nearby hospital but he died from injuries sustained. Green was said to have successfully completed the stunt a day before when practising for the Selfridge Air Show. He was an experienced daredevil with 25 years of aerial stunts behind him, colleagues have said.

Officials at the base are working with the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate the fall. Green’s father, Eddie ‘The Grip’ Green, was a notorious wing walker - named by the International Council of Air Shows Foundation as ‘the most experienced air show stuntman of all time’.

This is just such a senseless tragedy. I guess he died doing what he loved, but it's plain stupid to take such risks without safety equipment. If only he had worn a parachute, he would still be alive today.

My thoughts exactly! If only.... and what a waste of a life. It's also shocking having 2 such horrible aerial accidents so close together.

I think it really should be made illegal for these

kinds of stunts to be performed without some

kind of safety measures in place. Like Jazzy said,

a parachute would have saved this man's life.

I agree with Rapunzel too, it's shocking that this

has followed so closely too the Red Arrows accident.

Why would anyone do that without a parachute?
