Us Brits do love a good summer picnic, don't we? Which is rather odd when you consider how unpredictable our weather pattern's can be. But as soon as the sun blisters down upon on our fair little island people of all ages leap into action like a dog chasing a frisbee and hunt down the first piece of dry grass they can find. But what are the best ways to enjoy a summer picnic? And what are the prats and pitfalls to avoid?
Summer picnic's are one of the most superflous activities you can partake in. Think about it, just because a little bit of the sun has appeared people seem to drop everything just so they can take full advantage of the heat and show off their minimalistic eating styles to the general public. When all you really need to do is sit out in your back garden and drink orange juice straight from the carton. Doesn't sound as luxurious does it? But the thing is, picnics are just so damn amazing that it is impossible to resist them.
But in order to truly appreciate a good summer picnic there are a few rigorous rules and regulations which you need to adhere too. Firstly you need to find the perfect venue for your afternoon. This could be in a park, on a beach or near a reservoir, lake or creek but it preferably needs to already have some people there just so a comfortable atmosphere bubbles in your vicinity.
Once you have chosen your locale you need to find the designated spot where you will spend the next couple of hours. Underneath a tree, umbrella or parasol are the most desired places but a pair of sunglasses will often suffice in keeping the sun at bay.
The most important aspect to consider when preparing your picnic is that of the food, without which you and your comrades would just be acting like the homeless. Now you can go all out and prepare bellini's, cocktails, delicate pastry's and a selection of world cheeses to enamour your friends with. Or you can take a different approach and simply rock on down to your local supermarket and pick out your favourite cold meats, can's of pop and different fromage's and wolf them down straight from the packet.
Either way works well.
But for those looking to spoil themselves rotten a packet of fresh, juicy strawberries are a must which should ideally be complimented with some single cream and washed down with a bottle of champagne. You'll feel like royalty.
There are a few items however that are a must if you want your picnic dalliance to thrive. Watermelon is a perfect addition to any occasion and can be thrust into a salad alongside mint leaves and feta cheese to make you experience the perfect summer feeling whilst fairy cupcakes are a light and wonderful treat to enjoy after.
Every single one of us has created their perfect picnic, arrived at their desired spot for relaxation and then realised that they had left an integral piece of kit behind at home. This could be in the form of a corkscrew or bottle opener, a sharp knife, a damp cloth, a rubbish bag or even just a simple bottle of water to help keep you hydrated through the day. Hopefully this list will help to remind you of them, of course it won't, but it was worth a try.
And there you have it, several different ways for you to enjoy a wonderful summer picnic. Until the good old British weather thunders down and ruins it for all of us.
