On my forum I have a group-tagging add-on and I use it to send the members a nice message from time to time or get their attention to an annoucement or some important info.
As for being tagged, I get so many alerts sometimes I miss when people tag me, its nothing personal to them if I accidently overlook something. I am only human.

I hate being tagged in a thread. hate it.
I can understand if the thread is an announcement, or member of the month, or something like that- something that you actually need to read and requires your attention
what annoys me is when members tag you in what's for dinner threads, or daily check in threads. honestly those threads are usually quite general , and quoting the message is good enough
