Has anyone ever talked down to you because you were poor?

I get this PLENTY at my retail job, and yes it is because I am a lowly sales associate behind a cash register getting paid minimum wage (I'm not getting paid minimum wage, more like a couple dollars more). Lots of customers talk down to me when they're unsatisfied with something, or just making conversation about the job I work simply because of my duties as an associate. I have to clean up after people and basically being their slave, answer to every beck and call. And you know it's because they know they make more money than I do.

Little do they know I'm probably much more highly educated than they are, but eh...whatcha gonna do in this economy? xD *shrug*

you were talked down to because youre at the low end of the totem pole right? Scratching and clawing your way to get to the top

I get the brunt of it because I'm the face of the company, the people the customers deal with the most as they purchase products from our stores. They don't see the people who make the policies, they don't see the designers who didn't take into account that people need comfortable shoes, they don't see the people from the warehouse who don't check to see if the shoes are in good condition when they ship them out. They see me, and I am the one being paid so little, so I must not be respected.

dont worry. Youll get better at your job to make them see youre commited and motivated ..i always let the negative words gonin one ear and out the other

It's not about that. I'm good at what I do, which is why my manager has put me in that position. It's merely a position society looks down on. We are the lowly grunt workers and therefore we are treated as such. It'll never change in this state of mind our culture has.

hmm perhaps change of venue and seek better job..unless where you are, jobs are hard to find?

It's very hard to juggle two jobs. Right now, if I were going to find a new job, I'd have to make sure it fits the schedule of my second job or I'd have to quit the second one and just rely on a new one. We'll see.
