Is technology really making us antisocial? Why or why not?

Yes because we have technology that we can use to talk to people. A lot of people don't hang out with friends anymore. Our society has become lazy because we can Skype or Facetime anytime and anywhere. Nowadays we use cell phones and social media sites to interact with people. Very sad but true.

I think it dates back further than the popularity of computers. Lots of people would rather veg out in front of at television instead of being social and that's been going on for decades.

While technology in the past has helped to make things easier, I think in this case, with the explosion of technology and automating things as opposed to having people do certain jobs, it REALLY does make us more antisocial. I hear people all the time constantly saying they'd like to go out to a store and not have to talk to anyone, and then just ring out at a self checkout because it's too much to "socialize" with the cashier. Or they'd rather just be on the computer or on their iPhones. I admit I'm partially that way, but I've forced myself to become more social for my jobs. It's important that we are able to set down our technologies and interact with other human beings.

yes tech is making us anti social. the cellphones to blame. on the bus this morning out of the 20people on board i was only one not on the phone. besides the roar of engine.. no one said a word.

I thought you had a car?

Anyway, a bus isn't really a social environment.

This afternoon we had occasion to go by a golf course.

And, from where we were, you could see several holes where people were playing.

I'm not kidding, and I wish I had had a camera, at least a couple of people were staring at their phones in every foursome while waiting on their turn to play.

I like having access to the sum total of human knowledge available more or less instantly.

But, I guess, if you watch a lot of funny cat videos, then, yeah, I see the point.
