A 19-year-old was stabbed early Saturday morning during a fight with a man who stole his phone, police told the Daily News.

Brooklyn teen Alexander Herald and his friend fell asleep on the No. 4 train near the Woodlawn station in the Bronx.

When they awoke, Herald's cell phone was gone.

He spotted the thief with the stolen goods and confronted him, but the man pulled out a knife and gouged him multiple times in the body and head, police told the News.

Herald's friend, who has not been identified, rushed to a toll clerk at Fordham station to call 911.

When he returned to the platform, he found his friend bleeding from his wounds, terribly injured.

Herald was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and police are actively searching for the suspect and his female companion.

'It’s just devastating,' Herald's sister, Ashleyrose Herald, 20, said. 'They need to have cameras on the train in this day and age.'

Terrible mistake to have confronted the thief. A cell phone can be replaced. A life cannot.
