Variety - ‘The Last of Us’ Multiplayer Game Has Been Canceled

Welp.
I guess it shouldn't be a surprise given the lack of news but it's still a bummer.

Factions multiplayer on the first game was a big surprise and they've been hyping this one up to be bigger and better than ever, with story elements and more. But now they're saying the got too ambitious and to support the game long term they'd basically have to devote the whole studio to it and not be able to focus on new single player games they're more widely known for. Whether you believe their reasoning or not is up to you.

Still I find it absolutely ridiculous that it took them so long to announce this.

Unfortunate, but The Last of Us kind of needed to be left where it was.
There's still rumors that Part 3 is in the works, so I guess we'll see if it gets left behind.

I didn't think a sequel to the first one was necessary either and I ended up loving it even more so I'm open.

A lot of video games companies are really bad with promoting games before they're ever released. Square Enix is horrible about it. They'll release a trailer and then take over a decade before they will release the game.
