Add anything to that list that would be appropriate for our decline.
[quoteCall this the Kübler-Ross model for patriots. Here it goes:
1. Denial
I can’t believe it. I won’t believe it. My nation on the verge of collapse? A ruin in the making? Enemies have vanquished the indomitable Uncle Sam? Heaven forfend! Never gonna happen! Exceptional nation and all that! Y’all a bunch of doomsayers, nothing more.
2. Anger
Holy sh*t these m*********** are destroying our nation! Something must be done! Have you seen what so-and-so did? Did you hear what such-and-such politician said? Can you believe it? And the media—they’re so biased! They’re part of it! Let me spout off a litany of examples of how corrupt everything and everyone is! I am steaming mad! This will not stand!
3. Politicking
Ok, enough bitching. Time to get involved. We can do this! We just need to get the right politicians into office and they’ll ride to our rescue! Yeah democracy! We the people have awoken! We’re gonna right this listing ship of state!
4. Militancy
Wow. Who knew that the bastards we elected were just as venal and useless as the bastards we threw out? It’s almost like the whole electoral system is a rigged game. Who’s running this show? Time to find out, hunt down those treasonous bastids, and stretch their necks. Ban my bullets? Hells no! Molon labe! Time to water the tree of liberty and sh!t!
5. Depression
I came, I saw, I stood alone. Everyone appears to be mindless sheep, or more willing to talk the talk than to walk the walk. Nothing’s going to happen. The country’s on the fast-track to destruction and the few who see it are too weak, too cowardly, or too disorganized and undisciplined to do anything about it. We’re doomed. I think I’ll just go lay down and die.
6. Acceptance
Things change. Empires rise and fall. The good sometimes are felled by the evil. Sh*t happens. Life goes on. Bury the dead, mourn their loss, but move on. Figure out what comes next, and prepare for it—short term, nearer term, and long term. This will not be the end; merely a very painful birth into a new beginning.
That said, we must never forgive and never forget. The evil bastards who forced this reckoning upon us must eventually be dealt with if there is any justice in this world.
