Reminds me of the movie, Dark Skies.
You'd like it, I think. I enjoyed it for the surprising low budget it had.
Well, at least you gave it a shot. That's all anyone can ask. I can agree that it was a strange, slow opening; but, it appeared they were aiming for something very Twilight Zone like in the concept.
