They are trying to ban e-cigarettes from public places

E-cigarettes are now being treated in a similar way to standard tobacco-based cigarettes, it seems.

Radical plans have been proposed in Wales to ban vaping from public areas.

Apparently, this is because e-cigs are a ‘gateway’ to smoking with regular cigarettes.

The Welsh government therefore believe they should be regulated in the same way and are trying to bring the rules into line with existing smoking laws.

A Public Health Bill has been drawn up proposing this as well as raising the age of buying tobacco to 18 and new licensing laws for tattooists.

The move is only being looked at in Wales but has obvious repercussions through the rest of the UK.

Labor politician Professor Drakeford said:

"The bill will mean that anywhere you can’t use a conventional cigarette, then you won’t be able to use an e-cigarette either.

We have worked so hard in Wales to try and bear down on the harm that smoking does, and allowing e-cigarettes to be used in the way they currently are risks undoing the progress that has been made."

There are now estimated to be 2.6 million ‘vapers’ in the UK.

Should e-cigs be subject to the same laws as regular cigarettes? Why/Why not?
