Jeremy Clarkson has made a passionate plea urging the UK to open its doors to the migrants fleeing Libya and other North African countries who have been risking their lives crossing the ocean.

His comments come after a devastating incident saw a migrant boat capsize, killing 900 people.

Taking aim at those condemning the migrants, Clarkson said: ‘They are coming because they don’t want to have their heads cut off with a rusty kitchen knife. And here’s the thing: if we are human beings too, we should let them in.’

He added: ‘If your neighbors house burnt down, you wouldn’t tell him that your house was full.

‘Even if you neither liked nor trusted him very much, you’d make up the sofa bed and invite him to spend the night. Or is that just me?’

Clarkson’s refreshingly humane take on the situation is a far cry from Katie Hopkins, who has often tried to ally herself to the former Top Gear host and his views. She caused uproar recently by saying that she didn’t care if the migrants died.

Do you agree or disagree and why?

While her sentiments read nicely on paper, I disagree in theory and practice. Massive amounts of people fleeing to other countries is simply making the problems in their homeland everyone else's problems, while never really fixing anything.

It's one thing to let someone stay on your sofa bed for a couple of nights while they find alternative housing until their home is rebuilt; it's a completely other thing to let EVERYone move into your home forever.

What get me is that the western countries are the biggest shits and racists around according to these countries, however when it comes to getting saved they always put their hands out to these very same countries that they continually run down.

Well then you, Jeremy Clarkson, can take them into your house. You can feed, clothe them and pay for their medical costs.

Well I know whose house to randomly show up at when I visit their area :P

It is good idea in theory but it isn't something that would work literally
