A serial shoplifter has avoided jail for his 101st conviction – despite telling magistrates he steals every day.
Scott Caldwell had been out of prison for less than a month when he stole five bottles of alcohol from Waitrose in Wymondham, Norfolk, before returning four days later to steal a further eight.
And despite telling Norwich magistrates that he steals ‘every day’, he was spared jail – on the grounds that another spell in prison would not change his behaviour.
Magistrates gave him a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered him to pay an £80 victim surcharge.
