Ticketmaster is destroying live music. Their scam fees now cost as much as 78% of a ticket. They control the events, the venues, and even the artists. There’s a movement pushing the Justice Department to take on its monopoly. Cory Doctorow breaks it down.

Bands have been fighting that fight for decades now, like Pearl Jam (at least for a while)...it's a never-ending battle, it seems.

Ticketmaster fees are crazy. I have 2 events coming up that I purchased through them. The tickets themselves were like $30 each but after ticketmaster had their say in the matter, those tickets suddenly turned into $45 each.

It's scary how quickly it adds up! Those hidden fees for nothing are just awful.

Especially if you are buying multiple tickets. Its highway robbery!

Oh absolutely! Extortionate fees for nothing.

Some venues handle the ticketing themselves but then they tack on the fees too just because its what ticketmaster does. :faint:

Yep, if it's ok for one...
Well I suppose I feel better if the venue takes the money instead of a 3rd party company that is just being a middle man. At least the venue can use the money to pay their employees better or improve the building itself.

Fair enough, I suppose. At least it's not Ticketmaster getting money for nothing.

--Live Nation and Ticketmaster were allowed to merge in 2010. The result? They now control 70% of the primary ticketing and live event venues market.

They exploit all of us — and we simply have to take it. Big mergers are terrible for everyone but super-rich CEOs.

Going to a show this week and got the tickets through ticketmaster/livenation. Guess I am a chump. :P
