Researchers from Google and the University of Washington are able to synthesize timelapse videos of popular landmarks using large community photo collections. Photos taken of a location are sorted by date and merged into a common viewpoint. The resulting time-lapses show diverse changes in the world's most popular sites, like glaciers shrinking, skyscrapers being constructed, and waterfalls changing course. (Source)
