In Egypt, it is almost impossible for average-income people to marry and if they were able to cover the expenses, they would be already by 40-45 years old which is considered as "A very old" age to marry in Egypt. Reasons? Let us make the calculations (in USD)

Life in Egypt is ridiculously expensive in all aspects. Food, transportation, clothing, gadgets, housing, utility bills, cars, and anything else that would come to your mind.

In such a retarded society that I want to abandon today before tomorrow, traditions are ruling and ruling hard. Traditions control everything, even official decrees and statements are influenced by traditions and norms. To marry in Egypt you must have the following:

1- An owned house.
2- All necessary home appliances (TV, Fridge, Washing machine, etc..)
3- A fixed contract job with at least 500 dollars per month income.
4- All necessary home furnishings (Mats, Sofas, Chairs, Curtains, etc..)
5- A car (not necessarily an expensive one)
6- Wedding party is a must thanks to retarded traditions.

All the above is bought by equal division between the woman and the man (Either each one buys specific things that are equal in value to the same stuff the other buys or basically they pay the half in everything like if we are going to buy TV today and let us say it costs 400 dollars, man pays 200 woman pays 200)

This is not simply the problem. You might think the above stuff can be easily found in any place. Yes, they are everywhere in all the stores, but lets calculate the cost.

1- To buy a "Basic" home in a market where real estate pricing is really really unrealistic, you would need at least 300k in EGP which translates to roughly 42k Dollars in USD (1 USD = 7.15 EGP)

2- For home appliances, you would need around 150k EGP which translates to around 21K Dollars.

3- For home furnishing, you would need to pay around 50k EGP to get "The most basic basic furniture" which translates to 7k Dollars.

4- To find a job that pays you 500 dollars per month is like finding a needle in a stack of needles. The unemployment rate is 25% of the population while the employed ones have an average income of 250 Dollars per month which is terribly low. That said only for the employed ones which are around 75% . Bear in mind that 49% of the population lives under the line of poverty with an income of less than ONE DOLLAR PER DAY. Just imagine that.

5- The cheapest trash car would cost you 50k EGP which is also around 7k Dollars and it would only survive maximum of 2 years if you used it carefully.

6- Finally, the cheapest wedding organization in a really terrible place would cost you 10k EGP which is around 1.4K Dollars.

*Brings a calculator* 42000+21000+14000+ 1400 = 78400 UNITED STATES DOLLARS

Have you seen how ridiculous is that number? BEAR IN MIND THAT I said that these are the basics of the basics which ensure you very average if not terrible quality of life. To get a "Suitable" standard of living stuff, that number will exceed 100-150K Dollars....to just marry.

Wow! So much required. :faint:

Here any 2 consenting adults can get married and get their marriage license at a court house for under $100. Nobody cares about the rest.

Yeah I am so aware of that since I am very interested in comparing Egyptian traditions with other countries ones. Out of the many comparisons I conducted, Egypt is the worst one in terms of marriage and how the process goes. We have been working (a large group of youth) on just making marriage simple like it is in most countries around the world. The initiative we launched was called "Marrying with 2 rings" to express the need of simplifying the process of marriage. It is getting ridiculously unbearable and many young men and women are really obliged to do wrong things. Sexual harassment, rape and sexual violence increased dramatically in the past couple of years. Life is turning here into some sort of "Survival of the richest" ....

Sex before marriage is frowned upon too?

It is forbidden by law, ethics and religion. However, noone would ask you where you and a girl are going unless he is an A-hole and he would go call the police that there might be an "illegal" sexual intercourse taking place somewhere. Youth, being squeezed by prices and pressures of life, are going for sex no matter what it costs, either they go to homes where there are a bunch of hoes that have sex with you for a money (they are illegal of course) or either you have a place (like parents are away on vacation) and you can take your girl there. Most of girls were brought up in a way that make them "fear" sex before marriage for many considerations. Any other forms of sex where the D don't go into the P are frequent and widespread like oral sex for example, I see many couples in cars where I am driving at the night (definitely hiding in the car, not showing themselves)

Hmm, I was gonna say "Who needs marriage when a couple can just be together and do all the things that a married couple would do" ...but I guess that's out.

Even that, it is not really about sex. You cannot simply leave your home and go live with your girlfriend in another home. Neither she nor her family would even accept that.

With all these strict rules, I'm surprised your government allows you to use the internet. There's soooooooooo many sexually explicit things and other non-traditional things on the internet that they would want to shelter you from.

They are doing it on purpose. They strictly ban everything but let you only thing to do. To "masturbate" over nude videos and pictures on the internet. Number of youth who masturbate daily in Egypt in a recent research exceeded 80%

Isn't allowing the citizens of Egypt the freedom to look at stuff (that contradicts Egypt's lifestyle) kind of odd? I mean, if they didn't want you all involved in certain activities, why are they allowing you to be exposed to them (through the internet)?

Simple answer: They are retarded.

Are you going to live there forever? Or move?

For your information, I was brought up outside Egypt. Anyway, I'm planning for a very soon "departure" out of the country. Highly possible by June 2015. Just preparing some essential stuff before I leave like marrying my fiancee, finishing the diplomas I am involved in and then we will leave. High expectations that I will go to my father work place in Saudi Arabia or I would go to UAE. If I didn't manage to go there, then Germany is probably my place to be.

And additionally I'd like to say that if my father (He is a very professional dentist) wasn't able to travel and work abroad, he wouldn't have secured neither me the rest of the family the life we have now. Mostly I would have been a beggar by now.

Well that's good. You can move away from that place and live YOUR life the way YOU want to live it. That's a freedom everyone around the world should enjoy, in my opinion. :)

That's a ridiculous amount of money. Are people getting married at all if no one can afford to?

Seems like I could get married for €12.50.

Many people unfortunately tend to just rent houses instead of buying them. But renting laws here are so awful that the guy who gives you the house can easily tell you get the fuck out of my building, all abiding by law, as long as "he owns it"

And shitty government isn't helping. Many couples tend to live with their parents ( switching between the husband's family and the wife's one)

My birthday wish really is to leave this shithole.
