The old saying is Traditions were made to be broken.

Do you agree with this? Do you think people should follow / practice old traditions? Is it important?

I know its a very broad question so fill in the blanks how ever you please.

Traditions give us a sense of who we are in history and define what it means to be a member of whatever group you are part of.

Most people take some comfort in the rituals of the small traditions associated with things like holiday meals, others in the heavily scripted activities of the Mass, or even a military type drill and ceremony.

Even those who have ignored their family's traditions as young people tend to come back later and rediscover them as they age and wonder who they are and where they came from.

No, not all traditions are good and should be kept. For example we will point to the barbaric practice of FGM or the cutting of baby girls as a type of circumcision. Yes it was their tradition, but it should pass into history as a bad memory and never be done again by anybody, ever.

How's that?

I agree with DrLeftover

That was an awesome post Doc and I agree with you.

Some traditions are good and some are bad, but traditions don't need to be kept. Usually new traditions are born.
