Well I filled up my big garbage can and rolled it out to the street... The trash people came out and dumped everyone elses trash on the street but mine. Sure it was really full (boxes sticking out about 3 or 4 feet above the rim of the garbage can) but it was not heavy. They could have easily dumped it. What am I supposed to do with my trash now? I cant fit any more in there and apparently they wont dump it when its too full like that. Guess I will have to load it all in my car and stick it in the compactor at work.

Stupid trash people.

Are you allowed to mix cardboard in with your other trash? I know here they pickup up regular trash on certain days and on other days they pickup cardboard only.

Heh, at least be thankful you have a trash company to pick up your trash. We have to go to the dump a lot to get rid of ours.

Still, that's not cool. Never heard of them not taking it because it's too much, lol

This is what it said on the City's website:

uses a Two Can recycling program. The green can is for organic materials including yard waste, food waste, paper and cardboard products.

I didnt know you could put all that stuff in the green cans. I thought it was just for lawn clippings.

You learn something new every day.

Ours is all separated out. We have a green bin for recycling, a black bin for rubbish, a black box for glass bottles, a brown box for leftover food waste and a white bag for garden clippings.

They have a blue bin in other cities around here for glass, plastic and cans I think. We dont have that in our city but you can take them in to get recycled yourself.

I have to have several containers where I live. I have to separate everything! Plus, we have no pick up where I live and you have to take everything to the recycle center. I just realized the other day that certain plastic bottles can be redeemed for cash. You have to search for a machine that takes the redeemable items. To be honest, I can't be bothered. XD

We have these too. There were a couple in the paper the other day who recycled everything for cash. They even took long walks in the evenings and collected cans and bottles discarded on the pavement (sidewalk). It took about 3 years but eventually all the cash they redeemed paid for their entire honeymoon! Good for them!

Personally, I can't be bothered to take tons of recycling to the recycling bank. Also, what you gain in refunds you lose in petrol driving there! Doh! So I put it all in the recycling bin for the bin men to take.

you should try denmark...............they have very very few food tins..........everything seems to come in glass bottles and jars...........they have machines everywhere....put the jar/bottle in....you get some cash back depending on the size/weight of the item...............glass then gets recycled

That's a good idea. I think we fill an entire football stadium to the brim every single day, in the UK, with landfill!

I especially loathe yogurt cartons, margarine cartons and polystyrene packaging which can't even be recycled!

There should be a law stating that all packaging MUST be recyclable! There is NO need for non-recyclable packaging in this day and age, PARTICULARLY with the problems of global warming and landfill!

Whatever happened to Agenda 21?

Agenda 21 was revealed at the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992 and was the blueprint for sustainability. That was 18 years ago! What the heck happened that it still isn't being enforced? Kofi Annan had a decade to ensure it was implemented. At least Ban Ki-moon spoke before the UN General Assembly and emphasized his concerns about global warming, climate change and the threat of nuclear winter.

More needs to be done!
