As New Zealand suffered a devastating earthquake just recently, Japan was next to be shaken up violently by one that had a magnitude of 8.9 but the aftermath of this are the creation of tsunamis that caused further damage. Now, tsunami warnings have been issued to at least 20 countries and amongst them are Australia, Russia, Philippines, Hawaii, Mexico and even New Zealand. Full source of this found here.

New Zealand and Australia has went through way too much with natural disasters this year... seriously. Let's hope they don't get hit by these large waves, despite the warnings.

I'm following some people in Hawaii and they have about 9 mins till it hits. My thought are with everyone.

~EDIT~ It's hit Hawaii. Apparently, the waves are only starting out small, but are gonna get bigger. But some people are being lulled into a false sense of security and are packing up and going home (After being evacuated). Also, in Japan the death total's increasing.

Between 200 and 300 bodies have been found on a beach near Sendai, the semi-official Jiji Press news agency is reporting.

Yeah most countries are sending help to the Japanese. Anyway, my biggest sympathies go to the victims and their friends and families

We were on tsunami watch in california. Lots of boats were turned over and property damage happened. Nobody got hurt (I dont think) though, so thats good.

Obama should apologize to Japan for the earthquake. It was North America's Fault!

(yeah, ok, bad joke, still the truth!)

Latest Temblor An Interplate Quake: Meteorological Agency

TOKYO (Nikkei)--The major earthquake that struck northeastern Japan on Friday had the hallmarks of an interplate quake, which occurs at the boundary between two tectonic plates.

At the area near the epicenter, the North American plate, on which part of the Japanese archipelago lies, slips under the Pacific plate. The temblor was likely triggered when the North American plate snapped upward, releasing the accumulated strain.
