Former president Donald Trump, who was banned for inciting violence during the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, can return to Twitter, Elon Musk says.

After a nearly two-year absence, Trump will be able to reclaim his Twitter account — though it's unclear whether he'll be back.

The decision marked both the highest profile and most controversial figure Elon Musk has welcomed back to the social media platform since his turbulent $44 billion takeover of the company last month, which has been marked by severe cuts to both its workforce and revenue as many companies stopped advertising. The former president was permanently banned for inciting violence during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"The people have spoken," Musk said on Twitter. "Trump will be reinstated."

I'm not political at all. I could care less what side you choose. But, I'm sick of pressing the "hide" and "this is not relevant" buttons on Twitter. I just want to see the topics I'm into there, but everything is either Musk or politics.

Luckily, I'm not that invested in Twitter so moving on shouldn't be that big of a deal for me.
