Following several disturbing incidents involving cannibalism that have set the internet aflutter with rumours of an impending ‘Zombie Apocalypse,’ the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a statement on Friday saying that there is no cause to fear the walking dead.

‘CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms), agency spokesman David Daigle told the Huffington Post.

This is not the first time the CDC has addressed zombies. In the past, the government agency has released several tongue-in-cheek warnings about the undead.

Now, however, the CDC decided to weigh in on the zombie question in earnest following a vicious attack that happened in Miami on Saturday, when Rudy Eugene, aged 31, was shot and killed by police while devouring the face of a homeless man.

Eugene, who may have been high on drugs known as ‘bath salts’ at the time, seemed invulnerable to the bullets piercing his naked body until the moment he collapsed, police said.

On Tuesday, Alexander Kinyua, a 21-year-old student from Maryland, admitted to murdering his roommate, KuNebulous Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, and then eating his heart and parts of his brain.

Now, law enforcement officials are on the hunt for Luka Rocco Magnotta, a porn actor who allegedly killed and dismembered Jun Lin, a Chinese man believed to be his lover, and then raped and ate flesh from the corpse.

Do you believe in Zombies?

I can't believe the CDC even entertained this for one minute.

What?

You don't believe that the public is gullible enough to believe it, or that our government isn't stupid enough to think they had to do it?

For my part, I don't care enough one way or the other to spend the effort to prove it one way or the other.

Considering there are various things in nature that can replicate the commonly-accepted zombie effects, I'm not surprised. I'm not sure I believe them though, either. If it works on insects (look up cordyceps unilateralis and its properties for mind control in ants, for example) I don't think it's such a stretch to believe it could be used to affect humans.

I wonder though if its something in the water or in the air. Or if there's some common link to all these people who've suddenly gone all Cannibal like over the past week.

Could just be selective reporting also your pattern finding mind (humans see patterns where there are none). You're only paying attention to it now because that face eating guy got a lot of attention, if that hadn't happened, these other things wouldn't have you searching for a common link.

Does anyone really think they would confirm such a disease if one did exist? They would most likely stall till it was impossible to do so. That's probably what most who truly think this is it are thinking.

I think they probably know whatever they say won't make a difference. If they say it doesn't exist, people will be skeptical and consider it to be a cover-up, especially with the recent news stories. If they say it DOES exist people will refuse to believe something that is widely seen as fantasy suddenly becomes real.

People love to see the opposite of what they're told.

I think if you dig deep enough into each Zombie story, you will find they were all high on some type of drug/drugs. Unfortunately, I don't care enough to start the dig.

Good point.

Another good point!
